Kerry Katona has issued a heartfelt apology following the shocking fly-on-the-wall documentary about her which aired on Channel 4 last week.

The reality star’s new image was dealt a crushing blow in Kerry and Me, after footage was shown of her slurring her words and shouting at her children.

Writing an open letter in this week’s OK! magazine, the 29-year-old mother-of-four said she didn’t know who ‘that woman’ in the documentary was because ‘it’s so far away from the person I am now.’

But admitting she needed to take responsibility, she wrote: ‘Even so I know that was still me and that I have to take responsibility for that.

‘I am just so grateful that my manager Claire Powell threw me the lifeline I so desperately needed and gave me the chance to change my life for good.’

The programme was filmed in February this year when Katona was at her worst and shows the slurring reality TV star shouting at her children alongside her estranged husband Mark Croft.

It also shows her crying, chain smoking and at one point even yelling at her children: ‘You miserable bunch, you think you’ve got problems in life!’

Croft, 39, also joins in on the rant when their three-year-old daughter Heidi is unable to find her school shoes and yells: ‘I’m just about to smash your head in.’

This is followed by Kerry shouting at their eight-year-old daughter Molly: ‘Shut your face or I’ll knock you out.’

The mother-of-four is also seen dancing around the kitchen while Molly, Lilly-Sue, seven, Heidi and Maxwell, two, are eating their breakfast.

But in her apology letter, she said: ‘My kids are my number one priority. I want a better life for them.

‘I’m not moaning but I have a very difficult upbringing and I would never want them to go through the things I went through.

‘I’ve got a second chance, I’m not going to let anything happen again and I’m never looking back.’

She added: ‘I only hope some good came out of that show for other people and watching it will help anybody going through depression, addiction, a break-up (or anything else I went through), so that they can turn their life around in the same way that I have.’

After he split from Croft earlier this year she left her home in Warrington, Cheshire, and moved south to West Sussex after signing up with Peter Andre’s management team, Can Associates.

The company allegedly tried to stop the film being aired but the documentary was still screened last night on C4 last Thursday.

Manager Claire Powell told the Mail at the time: ‘The reason we were trying to stop the documentary being screened is because Kerry only signed a release form but she did not sign a contract.’

Kerry is now newly in love with painter and decorator Adam Waldron, 38.
