‘Kerry Katona helped wreck my marriage after affair with husband’
Filed Under: News

Sarah Green used to have a familiar routine on a Sunday evening. After bathing her three children they would all sit down to watch their favourite television programme, ITV’s Dancing On Ice.

But this year while ten million other viewers enjoy the show, the TV in the Green house is on another channel because of one woman – Dancing On Ice star Kerry Katona – who Sarah blames for the breakdown of her marriage.

‘We used to watch the show every week and it was one of my favourite programmes. It was a ritual in our house every Sunday… but not any more,’ says Sarah, who is naming Kerry in her bitter divorce from her children’s father, Navy fitness instructor Kevin Green.

‘I can’t bear to watch because every time I see her face it’s like someone twisting a knife in my heart.

‘My oldest daughter said to me last weekend, “Dancing On Ice is on Mum, but we can’t watch it can we, because Kerry is on it?”

‘How do you explain that to a nine-year-old?’

In an emotional interview with The Mail on Sunday, Sarah, who works as a childminder to support her children, Honor, nine, Jude, four and 22-month-old Zena, says her five-year marriage was perfect until her husband met the reality TV star – herself a mother of four.

‘Before my husband met Kerry Katona we were happy and we were a family. Now my children are going to grow up without their father living with us and I am facing the prospect of divorce at the age of 25. I begged Kerry to leave my family alone.

‘I am only getting divorced because of Kerry Katona and I want people know that.’

Kevin Green, 32, a former marine who also works part-time as a fitness instructor, was introduced to Kerry last January when he agreed to help out at a weight-loss bootcamp course in Kent.

At the time Kerry – whose first marriage to ex-Westlife singer Brian McFadden ended in 2004 – was married to her second husband, former minicab driver Mark Croft.

She had been declared bankrupt two years earlier and, desperate to lose weight and rebuild her career, enrolled on the £1,100-a-week G. I. Jane Bootcamp for a fortnight as part of a deal with a magazine to document her predicted weight loss.

Her progress was also followed by a camera crew for the ITV2 show Kerry Katona: The Next Chapter.

Sarah recalled: ‘Before they met, Kerry Katona represented everything my husband hated – people who
take drugs, people who smoke and people who are overweight. Kerry was all three.

‘She turned up in the middle of the week and Kevin took an instant dislike to her. He called me every evening after work.
He said she was a vile, lazy diva who thought she was too good to do the same circuit training as everyone else or moaned at the first sign of hard work.

‘Kevin nicknamed her “The Tap” because she was a drip and from then on that’s what we called her

But pretty Sarah, who was signed to a London model agency when she was 18, said her husband’s attitude towards Kerry changed when he returned from the bootcamp a week later.

‘Kerry’s name came up in conversation with friends over dinner and Mark became very defensive about her. He said she wasn’t the woman she was made out to be and that people misunderstood her. Even my mother noticed how protective he was of her. It seemed odd because until then all he’d done was laugh about her.’

At the end of the first week’s course, Kevin returned to the family home, a three-bedroom house in married quarters in Eastney, near Portsmouth.

Sarah says: ‘At the naval base we were known as Posh and Becks because our relationship still had such a spark. Kevin was so proud of me and his family. He told Kerry when they first met how great our marriage was and how we went running together and how happy we were.

On January 29, Kevin drove back to Kent to spend a long weekend at the bootcamp. Sarah says: ‘Normally Kevin would call me every day for a chat and to speak to the children, but I didn’t hear from him once.’

When Kevin, a former boxer with the Navy, came home he told Sarah he had concerns about their marriage. ‘He told me he was feeling confused about our relationship which is not something he’d ever said to me before. He said he’d been offered the chance to help organise an exercise event at Tal-y-bont, a military adventure centre in Wales, the following weekend.

‘He said he wanted to go so he could have some time to think about our future. It came down to the point where Kevin said he either went to Wales or our marriage was over so I let him go. I didn’t have a choice.’

Sarah didn’t hear from her husband for the entire weekend. ‘He told me he wouldn’t be back until late on Sunday so I didn’t bother him. I wanted to give him a break to clear his head.

‘But he came back early on Sunday evening. I was in the bath when Kevin came upstairs. He walked in and was crying as he told me our marriage was over. He told me I’d lost too much weight and was too thin and that he didn’t find me attractive any more. He said he didn’t see me in a sexual way. I was stunned and asked if there was anyone else. He swore on our children’s lives that there wasn’t and said he was moving out.’

The next morning Kevin, who had served in the Falkland Islands and joined the Navy from the Royal Marines, moved on to the HMS Nelson naval base while Sarah remained at the family home they jointly owned.

The couple, who married in Portsmouth in 2005, agreed to meet two days later at his mother’s house and Kevin admitted to his wife that there was no way back for their marriage.

Sarah says: ‘We had a chat in the car. Kevin told me, “I’ve got something to tell you. I’ve met someone else.”

‘My first thought was that it was a Wren from the Navy. Kevin’s surrounded by beautiful-looking girls every day. I asked him who it was but he said, “It doesn’t matter who it is. But it has gone too far to turn back now.” I still had no idea at that point it was Kerry.

‘I think I was in shock and went to see my mum. The penny dropped as I was driving and I suddenly realised.

‘I texted Kevin and said, “Oh my God, it’s Kerry Katona isn’t it?”

‘He texted back, “I’m really sorry. I hope one day you can forgive me.’’

At the time Kerry’s marriage to minicab driver Mark Croft was also on the brink of collapse as rumours
of her relationship with Kevin began circulating.

Kerry, who lost a £130,000 contract as the face of frozen-food firm Iceland after being filmed taking drugs in the bathroom of her Warrington home, admitted kissing Kevin but insists the relationship didn’t develop any further because they were both married. She said in a magazine interview last April: ‘I kissed Kevin, but not passionately, and nothing sexual ever happened between us.

‘I found Kevin attractive, but neither of us needed any more complications. I’m thankful to Kevin, he gave me the push I needed to leave Mark. I thought, “I can’t be with somebody if I’m kissing someone else.” The morning after hearing her husband’s confession Sarah says she received two text messages she believes were intended for Kerry Katona.

The first read: ‘Can’t talk right now. I’m in a meeting. What’s up or do you just want to hear my sexy voice?

‘I sent Kevin a text saying, “You’ve texted the wrong person.”

He wrote back, “I’m really sorry”

‘I was so upset I decided to go and stay with my aunt who lives in Port Talbot in South Wales for a few days. When I got there Kevin was calling non-stop but I refused to speak to him. He left messages saying he was confused and had made a mistake and wanted to come back.’

Sarah made the four-hour drive back home on February 13 – the day before Valentine’s Day.

After much discussion the couple agreed to give the relationship another go. Kevin agreed to cut all contact with Kerry but told his wife the star was continuing to phone him and send cards to him at work.

Sarah called 30-year-old Kerry to confront her. When she didn’t reply she left a message warning her to leave her family alone.

‘The call went to voicemail and I could hear her voice. It said “Hiya it’s Kerry” so I knew it was her.

‘I was angry but civil. I said I knew what had gone on but Kevin and I had been together a long time and were making a go of our marriage and to back off.’

By this point Sarah says the Navy had also been alerted to rumours about Kevin’s relationship with Kerry and called the couple telling them not to speak publicly

Kevin also agreed to change his mobile phone number to stop Kerry contacting him. In April, after a make-or-break trip to Amsterdam, the marriage reached breaking point when Sarah tried to access her husband’s email account. ‘I called Kevin at work and asked for his password and he said, “No. Why do you want it?”

‘He eventually admitted he’d changed it to something related to Kerry. He said he had nothing to hide and said I could look through his emails when he came home that evening.

‘I said that he would delete anything incriminating so he agreed to drive home and open the emails with me at the house. I looked through with him standing over my shoulder and there was nothing untoward.

‘But just before I logged out I found a folder containing an old email from the same week in February that I had gone down to stay with my aunt in Port Talbot. I remembered the date because it was so close to Valentine’s Day.

‘Inside the folder was a receipt for a £100 Flybe flight ticket in the name of ‘Miss K. Katona’ from Manchester to
Southampton, paid for by Kevin. He reached over my shoulder and pressed delete on the email straight away.

‘At first he said Kerry flew to Southampton because she had work in London and her driver picked her up from there.
Then he said he didn’t meet her but admitted they had met during the weekend event in Wales.

‘He said they’d talked for hours and kissed but nothing more. After that I felt I couldn’t trust Kevin any more.

‘We stayed together for the sake of the children but argued more and more and, at the beginning of August, we separated but remained in the same house because Kevin refused to move out. After a few weeks I left for a few days until he moved out.’

Sarah and the children remained in the marital home until she saved up enough money for a deposit to rent a three-bedroom terrace house in nearby Milton.

In October, Sarah told Kevin she wanted a divorce. ‘He turned nasty,’ she says. ‘I had started going out with my friends again and he became convinced I was seeing my best friend’s brother. We were chatting on Facebook and he misinterpreted a comment I sent as evidence I was seeing another man.

‘I had written down a joke about a couple making love and Kevin saw it and said, “I knew you were sleeping with him and there’s the proof.”

Kevin consulted a local law firm about divorcing his wife on the grounds of her alleged adultery and unreasonable behaviour. On December 24 the firm sent a letter, which has been seen by The Mail on Sunday, giving notice of Mr Green’s intention to file for divorce.

Sarah also contacted a solicitor about beginning her own proceedings – which would cite her husband’s unreasonable behaviour including his relationship with Kerry Katona as the cause of the marriage breakdown.

Sarah says: ‘It breaks my heart to think that all of this could have been avoided. Kerry has talked extensively about Kevin in interviews. Every time she does it rakes over painful old memories for me. I’ve lost a lot of weight and my confidence has been shattered.

‘I could deal with another woman. But Kerry Katona? She is a mess. Friends on the Naval base even said, “Come on, you’ve got to laugh, he gave up you and his family for that?” If it wasn’t so sad it would be funny.

‘But I wouldn’t be going through this is if Kerry hadn’t been so selfish. I am a private person and a mother but it makes me so angry to see Kerry Katona being portrayed as a survivor and victim when she ruined my life.’

Last night lawyers acting on behalf of Miss Katona contacted The Mail on Sunday insisting in a letter she was not responsible for the breakdown of the Greens’ marriage.

you can not blame kerry katona for your marriage breakup . the problem is your husband he is the one who is selfish and shallow . get in the reel world. and as for kerry katona her life was ruined from a so called man but at least she is standing up an trying in life.

I can’t believe a private person would go to the newspapers! – and anyway she should look to blaming her husband as he took the vows with her not Kerry – he’s an adult not a child and should be responsible for he’s actions. Sometimes people dont feel loved enough and start looking elsewhere I think its the case here! I can’t believe she decided to pick on an easy target like Kerry because shes feeling bitter! – Kerry to WIN Dancing on Ice!!!! xxxxx
