Kerry Katona’s emotional road to recovery: The moment reality star is given the all-clear with drugs test
Filed Under: News

Kerry Katona is determined to portray her clean-cut new image on her latest reality TV series – and even went as far as taking a drugs test in front of the cameras.

The 30-year-old’s new ITV2 show, Kerry Katona Coming Clean, aired its first episode last night, in an effort to show a new side of the fallen pop star.

Speaking frankly about her drug habit and dark days, she opened up on the programme and decided to film a drugs test to prove to viewers that she has kicked her addiction

She sat with Claire Powell, from her new management company Can Associates, as she waited for her urine test to declare the results.

As the results showed no traces of drugs, Kerry jumped up and danced around in excitement.

And now that her addiction is in the past, Kerry made sure to show her reformed image by posing for a photoshoot in a skimpy black ensemble to prove how far she’s come.

During the show she also admitted that she’d stayed with her estranged husband Mark Croft for a lot longer than she wanted after fearing that he’d tell newspapers of her drug taking.

And her honesty seems to have worked, as viewers took to Twitter to praise Kerry on the social networking site.

One fan wrote: ‘I think it’s pretty brave to admit what a mess you’ve made of your life and then try and fix it on TV.’
While another posted: ‘Just watched Kerry Katona Coming Clean from last night, an amazing person, I take my hat off to her.’

Kerry also spoke openly about her bankruptcy, saying she ‘got through’ £10million in five years during her marriage to Mark Croft but still has no idea where the money went.

The mother-of-four, who suffers from Bipolar disorder, said she’d been on strong medication during the time Mark, 39, had been in charge of their finances.

And a sad Kerry was filmed as she was forced to sell her luxurious Cheshire home due to her financial strife.

Leaving Cheshire to move south to Surrey was part of her deal with her management company, who also represent Peter Andre.

The former cocaine addict is also made to undergo regular drug testing as part of the deal with Can, and declared on air that her only new addiction is the gym.

Kerry made sure to be filmed while working out, to show her new found passion for fitness and health and is determined to maintain her new slim line shape.

The series is set to track Kerry’s full road to recovery and will no doubt help with her financial troubles too.

Her latest show is a far cry from the Kerry Katona who appeared on her MTV reality TV show Crazy In Love, which followed the star and Mark Croft, and also showed Kerry at her lowest point.

Kerry Kotona I believe your are an amazing person, yes you have had an extremley hard time in your life and you deserve to be angry and upset for everything that has happened to you. I think your are an inspiration and just watching your show on bbc made me realise you can never give up and because you can prove to the nation that you deserve to have your kids and be liked for who you are because i think your fantastic. I am 16, i have had a rough couple of years with bullying and being told that the disease in my leg that i had for 2 years wasn’t real up until the point where i hurt myself, but just watching that show makes me realise if i keep trying and never give up things will be ok. There are a lot of horrible people in this world like Mark but your not one of them and hopefully people will start to see what i see that your a strong women that has been through a lot in her life, but is bringing herself back from it.
Good luck with everything and always know there is at least one person who believes in you
    Katie xx

    Dear Kerry,
watched your programme coming clean. As someone who is a recovering cocaine addict myself, I truly admire what you have achieved so far in turning your life around. You are worth so much more and thank God you now have people around you who are taking care of you and looking out for you. Keep strong, just go forward my lovely, its a very dark place back there. Try not to live in regret, its all part of an experience that will make you the person you will become. Learn to love yourself first, then you will be ready to find the man you deserve. Good luck Kerry and God bless.

Just watched coming clean. I’ve never been a fan of Kerry but I thought it was an eye opener. It’s a great show and I will keep watching. I also think its good for people to watch who are suffering from bipolar or depression, it shows that life is not perfect and is full of ups and downs but people do cope.

I have just finished watching your program and I cried all the way through!! I understand where you are comming from, as a single mum it is easy to blame yourself for the children not having a full family unit but just remember YOU are their family!!! Im 29 and a single mum, I left a controling and nasty man and I wouldn’t ever change my desision. You are doing what is right for your children and they will thank you for it when they are older!! Chin up hunny, you will make it through to the end and you will come out smelling or roses!!!

Hi Kerry just wanted to say i don’t know how a woman with your inner strength and beauty ever doubted herself. I truly believe that our lives are set our before we are born and the way in which we cope with what comes our way results in our family, our children and eventually our legacy. You have brought to people’s attention the troubles and setbacks in life of a real person, who enters this world with no head start or silver spoon in sight. From a life that begins the race with 1 step forward and 2 steps back. You have shown how to fight and survive through real life within the public eye, and how what you’ve gone through is not usually seen as a celebrity showbiz series but a documentary to study. You give the passion to believe that in spite of all this it does not have to end with nothing. Thank you for being our light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck for the future and God bless xx

  17. Sue Ashworth, December 9, 2010:

I watched your show the other night “coming clean” i thought it was amazing and when Mark was in front of you in his red car, i thought you was so strong. i wanted to cry for you when you started crying. You are being so strong throughout everything that has happened. Just prove to Mark and Brian what they’re missing! You deserve so much better and you can do so much better. I have so much respect for you and so should millions of other people! Good luck for the future. I really admire you, Stay strong! Xxxx
